Kayak Paddles

NIMBUSTM PADDLES - an evolution of design and time tested ingenuity.

Coastal Kayaks stocks (in Florida) a variety of Nimbus paddle models with a comprehensive assortment of blade shapes and materials - along with an array of shaft lengths constructed in either fiberglass or graphite. At Coastal Kayaks we utilize our "fit list" to ergonomically harmonize the paddler's physic, kayak, and their type of preferred paddling to the correct paddle.

To compare the analogy of a boat: There is a hull (kayak), the engine (your body), and a propeller (paddle). If these components are not matched properly, the unit, as a whole will not perform to its optimum capability. A paddler should carefully consider these factors. At Coastal Kayaks we can assist you in making an intelligent decision, thus enhancing your kayaking experience.

Paddle material definitions:

FIBERGLASS: A material consisting of extremely fine glass fibers, used in making various products, such as yarns, fabrics, insulators, and structural objects or parts. A material made of glass fibers in resins.

GRAPHITE: A soft, steel-gray to black, hexagonally crystallized allotrope of carbon with a metallic luster and used in lead pencils, lubricants, paints, and coatings. It can be fabricated into a variety of forms such as molds, bricks, electrodes, crucibles, and rocket nozzles. Strong, lightweight and durable.

CARBON: A nonmetallic element found native (as in diamonds and graphite) or as a constituent of coal, petroleum, asphalt, limestone, and organic compounds or obtained artificially ( as in activated charcoal).

RESIN: (Such as ABX) Numerous physically similar polymerized synthetics or chemically modified natural resins including thermoplastic materials such as polyvinyl, polystyrene, and polyethylene and thermosetting materials such as polyesters, epoxies, and silicones that are used with fillers, stabilizers, pigments, and other components to form plastics.

NIMBUSTM Economy Fiberglass paddles are light, strong, and ideal for beginner and intermediate paddlers.

These paddles are made with high-grade aircraft fiberglass in the core to achieve strength without adding weight. All of the economy paddles are made using close-molded RTM (resin transfer molding) technology. This process creates a tough blade of polyester resin and continuous strand fiberglass. Economy paddles come with the same epoxy fiberglass shaft and ferrule system used in the high-end paddles.

The wide selection of fiberglass blades ensures that you will find one that best suits your needs, from long range cruising to day tripping.

All RTM paddles are two-piece shaft only.

The Mystic is a mid-size economy blade.
15cm(6") wide by 46cm(18") long.
Weight: 35oz. (0.99kg)
The Spartan is a slightly larger economy blade than the Mystic.
18cm(7") wide by 46cm(18") long
Weight: 36oz. (1.0kg)
The following blades are available in one, two and four piece fiberglass OR graphite shafts.

The Quinsam was released in 2004, and received very well. This blade works best for a paddler with a lower stroke angle, as most of the surface area is in the tip of the blade.
16.5cm(6.5") wide by 46cm(18") long
Weight: 30oz. (0.85kg) in Fiberglass
26oz.(0.74kg) in Graphite

The Kiska is the most popular blade shape. It is an ideal mid-size blade for day tripping or short excursions.
15cm(6") wide by 46cm(18") long
Weight: 29oz. (0.82kg) in Fiberglass
25oz.(0.71kg) in Graphite

The Wavewalker is an excellent blade for powering through surf and chop, or for those paddlers who prefer a more powerful blade to move them through water.
18cm(7") wide by 46cm(18") long
Weight: 30oz. (0.85kg) in Fiberglass
27oz. (0.77kg) in Graphite
The Feather is a revolutionary paddle designed by Steve Schleicher of Nimbus. The Feather comes only in Graphite. It has the excellent grip and forward propulsion of a wing paddle, but without the unpredictability of one when bracing or sculling. Its asymmetrical dihedral shape combined with the concave spoon like blade, retains and concentrates your grip on the forward part of the stroke. The spoon centers your efforts with the shaft, and locks the blade in the water, eliminating flutter. The entry edge of the blade is thin to allow for easy entry and the back is smooth in order to reduce lifting water on exit.
This paddle is designed for the experienced kayaker.
16.5cm(6.5") wide by 48cm(19") long
Weight: [approximately] 30oz (0.85kg)
